Globemallow

I love the internet, as we all do, but it does consume roughly 1 percent of global energy. Globemallow is designed to help us become more aware of our energy usage while browsing the internet. Globemallow Dev View is designed to help developers, and other members of organizations see how their websites can become more sustainable in an effort to decrease their internet carbon footprint. In the fight against human induced climate change it is important that we understand how our energy is being used, and what it equates to. This is why a rough calculation of the amount of energy consumed and CO2 emitted on each website's page load is displayed. A fact is then displayed that can help everybody gain a greater understanding of what that energy can equate to. Everybody can make a change that affects energy consumption of the internet. Follow internet design best practices, and try to push for your organization to standardize on them. * Try to only use external font libraries when absolutely necessary * Ensure images are being lazy-loaded on your site * Try reducing image byte size when possible, or reduce the amount of images altogether * The list goes on.... Globemallow Dev View shows how your Sustainability Grade is being calculated. It also gives helpful tips on how to better achieve sustainable development practices. Globemallow uses the US Academic Grading System. A+ for a good sustainability website, F for websites that could use a little work from a sustainability perspective.
